SWEET SINGLETRACK

I wanted to make a place on here where I would recommend a few spots to shred some sweet singletrack. These are a few spots locally to ride, well there may be a little travel involved...

Poor House Farm Park- The trails at this park located in my home town are being built now by a mountain biking club called THUMB MTB Club. I am one of the founders of the club. We are hoping to have at least a 5 mile loop complete this year! Come check it out!

Greenbrier State Park- Probably one of my favorites to ride, close, technical, and some good climbs.  There is an awesome race there every year too, The Greenbrier Challenge.

Rocky Gap State Park- Next on my list, lots of good riding for anyone. Nice trail around the lake and more technical up on the mountain. Also a sweet race there, 9 Hours of Cranky Monkey. http://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/rock-gap-state-park-lakeside-loop.html

Allegrippis/Raystown Lake- These are the closest IMBA designed trails that I know about. Needless to say these trails are awesome. Dirtfest is also held here, an event put on by DirtRag magazine.

Frederick Watershed- This is a network of trails that is unmarked for the most part. Always fun to just go explore and ride the different loops. May be a good idea to go with someone that has been before.

Gambrill State Park- This trail is most likely the toughest of the trails around, this is a marked trail system that is technical, really technical. Lots of rocks here, not for a beginner.

This will be a ever evolving list, stay tuned...

  1. 3rd Battle is closed to bikes now. The single track is anyways. You can still ride the gravel paths if you don't mind weaving in and out of the old people and dog walkers that give you dirty looks because your on a bike.

    1. Hey there Chad, thanks for your feedback. I have neglected this blog for some time and now I am trying to get back with it. I have updated My Stable but have yet to get to this page. You are correct that the battlefield has shut down and that's a shame. That is part of the reason I have started the MTB Club. We are building small quick loop at Poor House Farm Park in Martinsburg right now. Hoping to be a nice 4-5 miles once complete. Now you can get 3.5 or so of our loop with more being added monthly. Just need volunteers! We are having a meeting tonight and a workday Sunday morning! If there are any questions feel free to ask!

    1. Hard for me to say this but I have never made that trip yet, I want to in the near future. I want to stick to places I have ridden so I can answer and questions with personal experience.

  3. That's cool. I wish I was closer. I've not been to Poor House yet. I' live in Romney and there's nothing here to ride but road. I used to hit 3rd Battle a lot. My go to is Rocky Gap these days cause it's close-ish but the same loop around and around and around the lake gets a bit boring and I'm not a huge fan of rocks of which there are many on that loop...hence the name I suppose...lol...I've hit up the new trail they build in Stephens City at the park. It's fun and you can bang out a couple laps in 30 minutes for a nice workout. I'll definitely get over to Poor House this spring/summer and the watershed over near Frederick has been highly recommended to me as well.

    1. I ride Rocky Gap a good bit, I ride a 9+ mile loop there. I ride around the lake, then at the beach I ride up the mountain, a lot of fire road but hit singletrack towards the top. There is a sweet downhill but it is rocky! Place lives up to the name! If you do Facebook head over and like my page. I can friend you and we can meet up and ride sometime.
